Service

As we travel this path of recovery together, Al-Anon members strive to do as well as to be. This action is service, which is a vital part of the Al-Anon program. Without service, we would have no meetings; and our program would soon disappear.

We can contribute by arriving at a meeting early enough to engage in fellowship and volunteer for one of the readings. We serve when we sponsor members, greet newcomers, accept the service position of Treasurer or Group Representative, set up and clean up before and after an in-person meeting, host or co-host a virtual meeting, order literature on behalf of the Group…and in many other ways, large and small.

“The best way to find yourself is to

lose yourself in the service of others.”

Mahatma Gandhi

More importantly, we perform a service when we share our experience, strength, and hope. Key to our recovery and our spiritual awakening is the understanding that we are not alone but part of the human community and that others suffer as we suffered before we found Al-Anon. By sharing at meetings, we let others know that they are not alone.
