Literature

There is an abundance of literature — books, pamphlets, and other reading materials — in Al-Anon, all of it written for friends and family members of alcoholics by friends and family members of alcoholics. This is because our experience of this family disease is different from that of the alcoholic. We read Al-Anon literature to know that we are not alone, and we study it to gain special insight from those who have traveled this shared path of recovery.

Al-Anon literature is carefully developed and reviewed, undergoing a meticulous process to become Conference Approved Literature (CAL). In meetings and while working with our sponsors, we read from and refer exclusively to CAL rather than drawing upon outside resources or writings from other 12-Step programs. This sustains the integrity of the Al-Anon program.

A catalog of Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature is available for your review and to print or download.

Some literature is also available for free online from Al-Anon’s World Service Office (WSO).

The Forum is a monthly magazine offering personal recovery stories from Al-Anon members and suggested meeting topics for group discussion. Each Al-Anon Family Group is encouraged to subscribe, and Al-Anon members from around the world are invited to submit their letters and stories for consideration.

You can order your own subscription of The Forum by clicking the button below.

District 11 Marin also serves as a Literature Distribution Center (LDC) for Al-Anon and Alateen, providing CAL through its Book Depot. Your Al-Anon Family Group in Marin may have a Literature Coordinator who can purchase CAL directly from the Book Depot on your behalf and then provide it to you at cost. You may also research and/or purchase Al-Anon literature directly from this website through the Book Depot Online by clicking on the logo below.
