Alateen

As part of the Al-Anon Family Groups, Alateen is a fellowship of children and adolescents younger than 20 years of age whose lives have been affected by alcoholism in a close friend or family member.

Alateen meetings are a great opportunity for teens to come together to share their experience, strength, and hope with one another. They discuss their difficulties, offer encouragement, and learn more effective ways to cope with their problems. Alateen meetings are run for teens by teens to help each other understand the principles of the Alateen program. Each meeting is sponsored by thoroughly screened and qualified Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service (AMIAS).

This is what I learned in Alateen

Alcoholism is a disease.

If just one person has

this disease, it affects

everyone in the family

mentally, emotionally,

socially, and spiritually.

I am not the cause

of anyone else’s drinking

or behavior.

I cannot change or control

anyone but myself.

There are people in Alateen

who understand me, and

we listen to each other.

I can detach emotionally

from problems created

by the drinker while

still continuing to

love that person.

No matter what happens

at home, I have spiritual

and intellectual resources

to help me develop

my potential.

I can create and build

satisfying and rewarding

life experiences for myself.

There is currently one Alateen meeting in Marin County, California, which is held on Sunday evenings from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. This hybrid meeting is open to young people ages 12 through 19 who are living in Northern California. Participants attending via Zoom must be visible on video at all times, and a passcode is required.
